In the wake of criticism about Amazon's handling of a copyright problem involving digital versions of George Orwell's novels 1984 and Animal House, Amazon CEO JEff Bezos apologized for the problem saying, "Our 'solution' to the problem was stupid, thoughtless, and painfully out of line with our principles." Amazon had electronically deleted the novel from customer's Kindle reading devices when it became clear that the books had been sold in violation of copyrights.Â
