The year was 1963 and Paul Newman gave what would arguably be the greatest performance of his career in director Martin Ritt's Hud. Co-stars Melvyn Douglas and Patricia Neal both won well-deserved Oscars but the honor would escape Newman time and time again until he finally won for the 1986 film The Color of Money.
