Media giant Viacom is suing YouTube for $1 billion in damages, claiming the company willfully allowed users to post 79,000 clips culled from such hit TV series as The Daily Show and The Colbert Report. YouTube claims it is not liable as it served only as the middleman. Viacom has countered that the company knowingly allowed users to continue to post video clips despite the fact that the web site should have been aware they were utilizing copyrighted material.
