MGM and Screen Gems have announced they will team to remake Brian De Palma's 1976 horror film Carrie, based on the Stephen King best-seller. The original was hardly a classic, but did earn a lot of money and scored Best Actress and Supporting Actress Oscar nominations for Sissy Spacek and Piper Laurie. The film is about a troubled, outcast high school student who possesses extraordinary powers to wreak destruction through telekinetic powers. The film also provided an early big screen role for John Travolta. The bad news is that the movie is being scripted by Robert Aguirre-Sacasa, who has earned critical scorn for writing the Broadway Spiderman special effects-laden production that has seemed cursed since the day it opened.
