In a bid to compensate for the dwindling sales of films on DVD, Hollywood studios are in discussion with with cable TV companies to offer recent films "on demand" to customers while some movies are still in theaters. Under plans being discussed, 30 days after a movie has been released, the service would make the film available to cable TV customers...the drawback being that it would be for a hefty premium of up to $30. Consumers may find that unpalatable since they know the movie would be available for purchase a short time later on DVD.
