Director Mike Nichols reflected on his first experience watching his film
The Graduate at a public movie screening in New York. He was stunned by the reaction of the audience, which was going wild over the events onscreen. Nichols admits that initially he took flack from college kids because the movie deftly avoided any mention of the central issue of the day: the Vietnam War.
