It was once the cushiest of all jobs...getting paid to sit in theaters and review movies. However, as the New York Times reports, the bloom is now off the rose for magazine and newspaper film critics. With shrinking ad sales and plunging readerships, periodicals have put film critics in their crosshairs as being expendable overhead. Thus, some of the most prominent names in film criticism have been put out to pasture, victims of the economy and the fact that the explosion of popular web-based movie sites have diluted their influence.
